From creating branded video content, recipe development and live activations, Matt brings a voice of authenticity and fun to every partnership. Little known fact: years before his food journey started, Matt worked in advertising. His ability to bridge the two worlds of food and branding allows Matt to approach every project with a very unique level of experience. With true grit and entrepreneurship, Matt grew the Fidel Gastro’s brand from serving sandwiches on tables at underground events in Toronto, to a popular Food Truck, six-year long restaurant run, as well as a growing catering business and food brand. Creating a memorable and meaningful food experience is just what Matt loves to do. From menu creation, to day-of execution, Matt and Fidel Gastro’s can take your experience to the next level. One project that Matt holds near and dear is June’s HIV+ Pop Up Eatery. In 2017, he partnered with Casey House Toronto to launch this pop-up event, smashing the stigma of individuals living with HIV/AIDS with a family-style dinner prepared by people living with HIV. The event garnered worldwide media attention, a documentary that aired on HBO directed by Oscar-nominated director Hubert Davis and an unforgettable and life-changing event for those who participated, including Matt. Matt reprised his role as head chef in March 2020, for the second iteration of June’s Eatery and even took it virtual in March 2021.
